Ulverston school raises £100 for Haiti

STAFF and children at an Ulverston school came up with £100 in just one day to help disaster victims in Haiti.
Bernadette Calvey, headteacher at Ulverston CE Infant School, Church Walk, sent a letter home to parents on Monday appealing for donations to help purchase a Shelter Box, which will supply up to 10 people with a tent and essential resources while homeless.
By yesterday morning, the three-figure sum had been collected and handed over to Ulverston Rotary Club, which, along with Rotary clubs nationwide, is co-ordinating the Shelter Box appeal.
Ms Calvey said: “It has been a week since the disaster struck so we thought it would be a good time to help.”
Terry Horne, president of Ulverston Rotary Club, said: “I’m just so proud the school has helped start our public collection. We think Shelter Boxes are such a practical way to help victims of earthquakes.”
