Robin Hulbert's 2010/2011 season blog - entry 1

Hi all you Bluebirds. I hope you’ve all had a nice rest and recharged them voices ready for a new action-packed season.

First of all, I would like to put my Wembley red card to bed now. I have come in for a lot of criticism and no doubt I am on a par with Robbie Savage for the most disliked (or ugliest) footballer, but, as I said at the time, there was no intent whatsoever meant.

I will live and learn. I would also like to congratulate Charlie Griffin on his comeback and goal in Stevenage’s first league game at the weekend.

Right, back to Barrow. The busy close season has seen us play lots of games and the team is really taking shape ahead of Saturday’s first league game at Histon. We’ve had some very positive performances in pre-season and, in my eyes, the squad is far better than this time last year.

There is going to be some really healthy competition for places this season. I know, and believe, that success is not won with just eleven players. Success is won with a squad. Every man in the squad will play a vital role.

It’s very frustrating for myself to be suspended for the opening four games, but this gives others the chance to stake their claim.

Boydy (Mark Boyd) has come back raring to go and a lot fitter, young James Owen will no doubt show this season what a promising player he is and Ciaran (Donnelly) has also displayed what a good player he is.

And that’s without, of course, mentioning Shez (Darren Sheridan). Places in the Barrow team will not be easy to come by this season.

At the end of the day, I want what is best for the club and that is to be winning games.
The joint-managers and board of directors are putting together a good team and the players have the belief in where they want to go.

Don’t get me wrong, it will be hard to emulate last season, but I genuinely believe a play-off spot would not be too much to ask. That has got to be our aim.

Let’s - as a whole football club (board, fans, players, managers etc) stick together and drive this club forward even more. Teamwork is they key.

Histon Beware, we are coming to get you !!!!!

Good blog Rob,cant wait to see you back in the midfield. It seems as though us winning the trophy and putting the town on the map(which we are every Saturday now}has upset one or two people if the truth be known.
