Passion for environment earns South Lakes councillor nomination for top award

HER commitment to helping the environment has earned a South Lakes councillor a nomination for a top award.

Councillor Clare Feeney-Johnson has been shortlisted for Sustainability Champion of the Year in the Local Government Information Units Achievement Awards.
Her passion for the environment was listed as one of the reasons for her nomination.
She also oversaw the the introduction of a ground-breaking scheme to help people reduce their fuel bills.
The Power Up Your Community initiative, which has just been relaunched due to its popularity last year, uses bulk purchasing power to negotiate cheaper deals for anyone who signs up.
She has also helped to lower South Lakeland District Council's carbon emissions by 16 per cent since 2008.
Cllr Feeney-Johnson said: “I am thrilled at being nominated for this award. It is recognition of the hard work SLDC has put into making an impact on improving South Lakeland’s environment.
“The success of the community energy switch programme, which SLDC was the first council to pilot, is just one way in which we have helped our communities.”
The winner will be announced at an award ceremony on February 25.
