Presidents for 2011
Ian Taylor is the new president of the Rotary Club of Ulverston while his wife Margaret has also become the president of the town’s Inner Wheel Club
A GOLDEN year lies ahead for the two newly installed leaders of the Rotary and Inner Wheel Clubs of Ulverston.
Ian Taylor is the new president of the Rotary Club of Ulverston while his wife Margaret has also become the president of the town’s Inner Wheel Club.
The husband and wife team also have double reason to rejoice because they will be celebrating their Golden Wedding during their year in office.
They are not alone among fellow club members in the golden wedding stakes as two other couples are also marking 50 years of marriage during the next 12 months.
Ian was formally inducted with the presidential chain of office at the Rotary Club’s annual assembly on June 27 while his wife Margaret was installed as the Inner Wheel President at her club meeting the following evening.
It’s the second time round for the couple as they have both previously served as presidents of their respective clubs. Ian was formerly Rotary Club president in 1998-9 while Margaret served as Inner Wheel president in 1996-7.
Both club will be holding a joint president’s night celebration and because of the special 50 year anniversaries this year they say it’s certain to be a “golden affair.”
Ian has taken over as Rotary Club president for 2011-12 from Hugh Whittam and Margaret’s predecessor was Maureen McArthur.
