Green addition to Ulverston festival calendar

A FESTIVAL town is setting out to prove you can never have too much of a good thing there.
Ulverston is known for its jam-packed festival calendar and now it has another to add to the line-up.
The Good Life Festival, named after the popular TV show, will take place over nine days in June.
Ford Park Community Group is getting behind the project, which will see the town celebrate all that is healthy, fun and environmentally responsible.
Kim Farr, one of the organisers, said they wanted to see an event that recognises the positives in the town and it seemed fitting to stage a festival.
She added: “This is a new festival that a group of about eight of us are pulling together to celebrate everything that is wonderful about Ulverston.”
The Good Life Festival will kick off on June 15 with an eco-fair at Ford Park.
Events will take place all over town, giving residents the chance to sample activities they may not otherwise have considered.
Ms Farr said: “We are trying to get as much as possible going on in a nine-day period that showcases local businesses, clubs, groups and activities but also looks at sustainability.
“It should be a fun week about things that make your life healthier, more enjoyable and more sustainable.”
She added that there was interest from local schools about getting involved with the festivities and she hoped to get other young people taking part as well.
Ms Farr said they decided to name the festival after 1970s TV series The Good Life, as it symbolised the healthy and sustainable lifestyle the event hopes to promote.
She said a programme of around 20 events had already been put together but there was room for more people to get involved.
There are opportunities for groups and businesses to take part by bringing a stall, giving a talk or hosting an activity.
