A CUMBRIA hotel has been bought for £1.5m by an investment group founded by former TV Dragon’s Den investor James Caan.

Luxury hotel Sharrow Bay on shores of Ullswater, near Penrith, and fellow von Essen hotel, Ston Easton Park in Somerset, have been snapped up by the private equity group Hamilton Bradshaw for a reported combined £4.5m.

The sale of the two hotels by Christie + Co has ended a process which saw the specialist property adviser sell 26 country house hotels, an island fort in Wales and a Chateau in France on behalf of Ernst & Young - the administrators of von Essen Hotels Ltd.

Martin Davis, director and location manger responsible for Christie + Co’s activity in the North West, said: “We’re delighted to have sold these fine country house hotels to Hamilton Bradshaw, and to have concluded sales on the complete instruction.

"Sharrow Bay is an iconic country house hotel which occupies an outstanding location on the shore of Ullswater."

The hotel is renowned for its location, food and service.

It has won a number of awards and the Sharrow bay restaurant has held a Michelin Star for a number years.
