Flash floods hit South Cumbria

FLOOD water is being pumped away from Dalton homes.

This morning's flash floods had left up to 10 properties in Newton Road under one foot of water.

A crew from Barrow fire station is at the scene and pumping the flood water from the houses.

Police have closed the road and are diverting traffic down Cemetery Hill, after a further section of Newton Road, near the junction with Long Lane, has been closed due to what is believed to be a burst water main under the road.

The heavy rainfall caused havoc with roads in Dalton, with heavy standing water on Newton Road, heading towards Newton, Long Lane, near the junction of Newton Road, and Abbey Road, near Goose Green.

The flooding has also lifted a drain cover on the A590 at Lindal and driving conditions are particularly bad on Thwaite Flat, Park Road, Abbey Road.
